How to care for
footwear made from different materials?
Grain leather
– clean the outside of the shoes with a cloth damped with water. Dry
them at room temperature and then apply evenly a thin layer of shoe
cream or shoe paste matching the colour of the shoes. After a few
minutes polish the shoes using a soft brush.
Buffalo
– soiling can only be removed with a clean, slightly damp soft
cloth. With this footwear it is recommended to use Buffalo shoe care
products. Caution! Greasy stains (oil, grease) cannot be removed.
Pul lup
and Crazy Horse
– clean the outside of the shoes using a brush or sponge damped with
water. Dry the shoes at room temperature and then spray them evenly
with an oil conditioner.
Nubuck,
and Velour
– clean the outside of the shoes with a special rubber brush. It is
recommended to use protective sprays for velour and nubuck products.
Important! Do not use cream or paste on nubuck and velour footwear.
Leather
is the most commonly used and ideal material in footwear
manufacture. Leather breathes, is soft, absorbs moisture well and
adjusts easily to the shape of a foot. There are several types of
leather.
Fine grain leather.
It has an ideally structured micro porous surface. Comes in matt or
gloss.
Patent leather.
It has an ideally smooth and glossy surface. The
surface is susceptible to scratches and scuff marks and such adverse
weather conditions as frost and damp.
Nubuck.
This kind of leather feels like peach skin to the touch. Nubuck
leather has a subcategory of vintage style nubuck, on which
fingermarks and scratches will remain visible even when used
carefully. Those can be removed by brushing the nubuck surface with
a special brush.
Velour.
It is a special type of suede.
It is more resistant than nubuck.
Outsole leather.
It is used for manufacturing leather soled dress shoes. Leather
soled footwear should be used with care in damp conditions and on
uneven surfaces.
What products should be used on suede and
nubuck footwear?
You should use a special
rubber brush when cleaning and caring for this
kind of footwear. For good maintenance it is recommended to use
velour and nubuck spray care products. Important! Do not use cream
or paste on nubuck and velour footwear.
Why does winter footwear get soaked and how to prevent it?
Genuine leather has hygroscopic properties, thus
it lets water and air particles through. That is why it is the best
material for footwear manufacture as it lets our feet breathe. This
is different in winter when our boots have much more contact with
water. Then this hygroscopic property becomes a disadvantage. In
order to prevent our footwear from getting soaked
it is best to maintain it using shoe cream or shoe paste or some
other footwear waterproofing products on a regular basis. |
